Henina tends to irritate people. She can't help it — she's bad at shutting her mouth. So when a prophecy is made that someone will stop the war, she figures she's the worst possible choice.
Too bad.
The Fates have their sights set on her, and it will take all her cleverness and quite a lot of offending the king to foist the prophecy off on somebody else instead.
But she can do it. After all, there are a lot of potentials to choose from.
TwentyFour Potential Children of Prophecy The Numbers Just Keep Getting Bigger Book 2 eBook Emily Martha Sorensen
Henima can't stop talking, which is a problem. She speaks the truth, but telling the truth can get her into trouble.
The advice she gives is actually quite sensible, but even good sensible advice
gets her into trouble.
She has a troublesome tendency to irritate powerful people :
the soothsayer, the king, and most dangerous of all, the 3 Fates.
This is a nice sequel to the short story "Six Shiny Silver Coins".
The end of the book indicates there will be a third story.
I will definitely buy it.

TwentyFour Potential Children of Prophecy The Numbers Just Keep Getting Bigger Book 2 eBook Emily Martha Sorensen Reviews
Running through the crowd on Prophecy Day at the market, Henina bumped into people in her excitement. The Fates were never wrong and some of their prophecies could be interesting and entertaining. Last month, the prediction was that the king would act with great kindness, so the surprised king threw money into the crowd! That’s why they were all back now, in case it happened again. But this time, the prophecy said that the war would be ended by one who stood in the square and had a star on her hand – she would rule the kingdom! The king and prince were horrified!
But as they search the crowd, 24 females were found with stars on their hand – at least one even drawn in with a pen! The king was dismayed since this prophecy would not be easy to unravel now. But he set his soothsayer to the task of training the ladies in warfare skills to lead their army to victory… maybe?
This was a fun book! Henina is a funny, quirky, wonderful character that will immediately charm the reader – (or the reader may choose to strangle her instead). She speaks her mind with courage, even to the king. And she speaks incessantly, much to everyone’s dismay! She is alert and notices the smallest of details -- part of her pickpocket skillset, no doubt. She even taught herself to read, when practically all of the other girls were never taught. Reading her story will keep the reader laughing, but intrigued enough to keep going to find out what she’s up to next! I definitely recommend this adorable story. You’ll also find it in the “Myths & Legends” box set.
It is Prophecy Day and Henina is thrilled with the prophecy that the war will end but she knows that she is NOT the Child of Prophecy who will bring about the end of the war. "You will know her by the mark of the star she bears on her hand. She will rule the kingdom with wisdom and grace." Unfortunately someone thinks she meets the qualifications and she is gathered up by the King's guards along with 23 other girls as potential candidates for the Child of Prophecy. Henina determines that her mouth that never stops and her innate ability to offend everyone she comes into contact with will show that she is not the Child of Prophecy and relieve her of the responsibility for stopping the war. But who is the Child of Prophecy and who will stop the war?
Henina's non-stop talking was often humorous to me as the reader although it generally offended everyone she came into contact with in the story but yet Henina did not use any foul language or do anything that made me feel dirty or disgusted to be reading the story (kudos to Ms. Sorensen on keeping the story clean). Henina definitely had great ideas about what should be done although she was severely lacking in grace and diplomacy so people didn't tend to like to hear the ideas.
In addition to the clever character of Henina, I want to point out the clever chapter titles in this story. Each one uses a number increasing from 1 to 21. It was very interesting, when I realized after the first couple chapters that the titles were important, to see what was going to happen in the chapter based on the title. Don't skip over the title as you read each chapter.
This was a fun story to read even for myself who is considerably over the 'young adult' target audience.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What an adorable and funny read! Henina’s character, though can be a nuisance to many, was a source of laughter for me. Having worked with students who had issues with keeping unkind thoughts inside, I was brought back to some amusing moments. She is a strong and fierce character that brings her the center of attention in many occasions. Sometimes this may a good thing and sometimes not so much.
The plot flows swiftly and had several chuckling moments. The idea of a potential child of prophecy was creative, especially when involving the Fates. I loved when Henina would question the Fates, they either sent a lightning bolt or perhaps a bird would die in front of Henina. This was meant to teach the sassy girl to take them seriously, but it was done so humorously that I couldn’t help but smile.
There are a few themes here though it is a humorous book. Confidence is a big one as both Henina and Anna Khordoa, another potential child of prophecy, are full of confidence. Another theme would be always sticking with your beliefs. The twenty-four potential children of prophecy all believe that the fifty-year war over a gold mine should end. They have lost many male loved ones because of it. Therefore, it is their ultimate goal to stop the war.
An improvement here would be to make the story longer. 🙂 It was a bit odd that after fifty years of fighting, the war was ended in what seemed like minutes. But, this could point out that perhaps, instead of war, people should focus on talking things through. By talking and negotiating, many problems can be solved more quickly than fighting, which is a good and valid point.
Overall, I fully enjoyed this read and am looking forward to continuing the series! It’s a read that many can enjoy.
This is a simply gloriously funny book. I really enjoyed it. The author Emily, has a marvelous sense of humor. You can hardly wait to see what happens on the next page with her heroine. It is very entertaining. I just love it.
